Boeing B-17: Flying Fortress

Boeing B-17: Flying Fortress

Issue 8

Released: 23/10/2019

Hurled into combat during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Pacific War would be a sideshow fight for the Flying Fortress. Instead, it would win its greatest accolades battling into the heart of Nazi Germany and fighting some of the biggest and most bloody air battles in history. This volume details the traumatic combat-driven evolution of the Flying Fortress and the young men who crewed the Queen of the Sky.

Generally I found it to be a good survey of the B-17. Nice to see mention of the aircraft's use after the war. Two errors that I saw, the Memphsis Belle has received a complete restoration and is now on display at the National Museum of the USAF. It has not been on display in the city of Memphsis for years! Second, Henderson Field on Midway was not named that until after the battle. That being said I would recommend the "book" for those looking for a general history of the aircraft.

With multiple scale model kits of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress available in all the main scales the timing for the release of this title couldn’t have been better! This title is a great one-stop-shop giving a decent overview and multiple photographs and colour profiles and overall offers excellent value for money. Highly recommended. Geoff C.
